Today, I’m going to take you on a quick and joyous journey through myWhy!
Why the heck do I only work with Shopify? What's up with only working with handmade sellers, creatives and artists!?
Welp, that why comes down to this. I hated crayons growing up. Hated them with a passion. A fiery passion!
There was no control with crayons and I loved to draw. Pencils, pens, pencil crayons and markers all had a strong sense of control and I needed to build fine motor skills. I needed that control that I couldn’t get with crayons. Have you ever tried to put a crayon in a pencil sharpener? Note: If you do, you’re going to have a bad time.
My dislike for crayons had me really narrow down my focus on drawing to using only high-precision artistic tools like pen and ink, fine-tip marker work and eventually led me to tattooing and permanent makeup. You don’t get much more precise than permanently injecting ink into someone or tattooing eyelids!
And my dislike for crayons took me down a path of resisting anything that didn’t work JUST asIthought it should, whether in the art world or in general. I mean, if you like crayons, that’s awesome-- but as a child, I just didn’t live the crayon life.
This is why I chose a career in something that offered both the mechanical and technical aspects while allowing for creativity and connectivity with people who feel the same way. I really narrowed down my career to working on a specific platform (that I know works really well) and with specific people.
This is why I fell in love with getting to work with people who live their passion day in and day out. People who are focussed on a goal of providing high-quality and handmade goods to the world. You, my creative peeps, are a unique and lovely type of person. You hear “no, that can’t be done and that can’t be successful.” and say, “well, let me show you.” and do it in the face of no agreement.
So this is mywhyand it took me a long time to understand why I hated crayons and how much it led me to my current career path. Not to mention, anytime I was at a friend’s house and they would bust of the colouring books I’d teach them how to use anything but crayons.
So my question is what is your why? Why do you do the things that you do and what why led you to your current passion?
I’d love to hear more!
